More than 65,000 schoolchildren raised Lm8,400 for the BOV Istrina Campaign 2006 through the donations they placed in special piggy banks in the run-up to the live charity show on TV, Bank of Valletta said yesterday.

The bank added Lm11,600 so that it presented a cheque for Lm20,000 during the programme.

The presentation was made by Charles Borg, executive head at the CEO's office, accompanied by a group of employees who took part as volunteers in the piggy banks campaign. The employees performed around 200 hours of voluntary work distributing and collecting piggy banks.

Mr Borg presented another cheque for Lm5,000, being the donations collected from piggy banks that were placed at a number of retail outlets and topped up by the bank.
