A 26-year-old man was yesterday charged with threatening to kill his wife and her parents with a knife on Sunday.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano heard Charles Brincat, of Tarxien, plead not guilty to threatening to kill his wife Ritienne and her parents Carmen and Angelo Camilleri and with the illegal possession of the knife.

Mrs Brincat said the incident happened when she left her Tarxien house, following an argument with her husband, and went to her parents' Birkirkara house. She said that this was not the first time her husband had threatened her. She also added that she wanted to live in her Tarxien home with her three children but was afraid of her husband.

On hearing this Magistrate Quintano granted Mr Brincat bail on the condition that he resides with his mother in Cospiciua and does not approach Tarxien. He also bound Mr Brincat with a Lm200 deposit and a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.

Lawyer Ludvic Caruana appeared for Mr Brincat.
