I refer to the letter from Edwin Vella (January 4) highlighting the missing Christmas spirit in Bugibba this year. I live in Qawra and can also confirm that on previous years one could not find a parking space in the area on the festive eves and weekends, while this year there were plenty of empty spaces to be had.
As already predicted, this is only the beginning of Bugibba's demise.
The closure of some of the hotels, which used to host the no longer welcomed "bucket and spade brigade", has just begun to leave its negative effects on the business community in Bugibba.
We are now being told that Bugibba will just become a summer resort. This policy apparently does not apply to hotels in the Sliema/St Julians area, but then again this district has the correct balance of members of Parliament in the government who will fight for their districts while others prefer a quiet and non-confrontational life unless it is an issue that affects their voters directly.
Again, Bugibba has the smallest number of vote concentration so it is less important to some.
Far from being the prophet of doom - those who know me will confirm otherwise - my advice to the business community is to prepare to close shop for the winter periods, unless of course there is a U-turn in this policy and this area is given priority by our administrators.
They should use their energy to do what is required to save this community instead of smiling wryly and constantly bickering within their party.
