Schools and radio stations are rarely mentioned in the same sentence, but at San Anton School music blares loudly during break time.

Five years after what was a rather bold attempt to start an in-house radio station, called LYR-X, the students are more enthusiastic than ever.

A whole day of events was organised involving students, parents and teachers. It all started when, during the breakfast show on LYR-X Radio, two live links with 89.7 Bay were established.

Eleanor from Bay Breakfast visited the school radio and interviewed students about this unique project. It was the first time that our school radio was live on air for all Malta and Gozo to listen to.

A press conference was the second item of the day, during which the school's principal, Ian Refalo, spoke about the importance of this project, saying that "it gave San Anton students the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment in the radio room as well as time management skills, researching news items, delivering their point of view and communicating through a different medium, the radio".

San Anton School has always been the first to introduce new ideas in education and this extra-curricular activity is a good example of how the school activates its philosophy.

Information was also given about about the operation of the radio station. It operates three times a day and each week there is a new roster for students who take part. In May LYR-X Radio organises its annual award-giving ceremony.

One of the aims of LYR-X Radio is to expose students to local talents. Percussionist Renzo Spiteri also visited the school to perform for the students.

His concert was thoroughly enjoyed and students clapped and sang to his unique beat.

All activities came to an end in the evening when a huge crowd of students attended a first time ever mega concert. The radio's birthday party saw seven top local bands performing live for the students.

Personalities like Ivan Filletti, Indigo, The New Harmonics, Salt, Scream Daisy and Scar performed their best songs.

The highlight of the party was the launch of a new single by Byaxident, the school band, who sang Trip to Life for the first time.

This new single was presented to the students by Jonathan Abel from 89.7 Bay - a wonderful number, bringing to an end a wonderful day in the life of San Anton School.
