I am somewhat confused about the article carried on December 27, entitled Seventy Streets To Be Built Under Strict Deadlines.
If I understand correctly, the Roads Minister, Jesmond Mugliett, mentioned that "Hal Safi, Siggiewi and Mtarfa are now among the list of localities that do not require any more works on residential roads".
I may have misunderstood, but someone please enlighten me. I am a newcomer to Mtarfa and being directly concerned with commuting in and out of this lovely little village, I could not help but be interested in whatever is going on with regards to its upkeep and the state of the roads.
To return home from the Mosta and Attard area I, along with all Mtarfa residents, have to use either the old panoramic road built by the English or go up Triq L-Istazzjon leading to the old hospital. From there you have the new Mtarfa to the East which is well maintained, and the old and forlorn Mtarfa to the West. This consists of a long stretch of neglected, potholed and patched road, which is crying out to be rebuilt.
With the bad state of this road and the reconstruction of the bypass, the only way to Mtarfa will be through Rabat which can be highly congested at most times of the day.
It is a relief to note that finally the works on the Mtarfa bypass have resumed to finally see their completion efficiently and thoroughly. I only hope that once these works are completed, more serious consideration is given to rebuilding the village main road which is the main artery for Mtarfa residents.
