Another waste of taxpayers' money
I would like to congratulate The Times journalists for the news about the continuous waste of taxpayers' money, with all the Cabinet sitting pretty as if our country has billions of euros to waste.
During the week I was watching the international news channels and saw very good year round-ups of various current affairs topics.
I think it would be a very good service if The Times news unit could produce a year's round up of cases of waste of taxpayers' money by the various ministries and the so-called independent public authorities.
The caption stated: "All for nothing: The Birzebbuga church parvis will have to be redone, at the taxpayers' expense".
When one reads such stories, and others that have been carried in various news reports throughout the media, one asks if there is any finger raised to say Issa daqshekk.
I know that the Prime Minister likes to build confidence through his constant smile, but if he wants to show that he has leadership qualities and embrace moral values, he must stand up and be counted to stop these abuses and the wasting of taxpayers' money.
Even if Malta had to obtain more funds from the EU, these funds are not sent from above, but are paid by the millions of hard-working people across Europe.
When the road leading to Castille was redone, as well as the pavement had to be redone, I had requested the government to enact as a criminal offence the wasting of taxpayers' money, following a complaint by one individual to the Commissioner of Police who would, of course investigate the complaint.
It is useless to continue to propose amendments to the Constitution when we have more urgent priorities, and the people of Malta have become fed up with the inertia of the current administration.
After all, deeds are by far bigger deliverables than an expensive smile.
