The 2006 season came to a close on Boxing Day at the Marsa Racetrack following the continuation of the 54th meeting in the Malta Racing Club's calendar. The meeting included some highly-interesting races, not least the Mediterranean Cup Derby final for flat racing. Managing Director, driven by Michael Sultana, won the derby for a fifth year in a row - an all-time record.
One other major final on the day was from the SECF Championships - the Prix de Vincennes for Premier Class trotters.
Here, In Vitro du Bourg sped to victory in a record-equalling time (1.13.7" per kilometre) over a distance of 2,140 metres.
During the meeting Charles Camilleri was declared the best driver for 2006, Rodney Gatt the best Apprentice Driver, Danish Fox Waltz the most consistent horse of the season and Demis Zammit the best jockey for 2006.
Apart from these awards, a special prize was presented by the MRC and SECF to the owners of Jump Of Glory - the most consistent French trotter during the SECF Championships.
The 2007 season gets underway on January 14.
