Sean Galea and Matthew Muscat Inglott (picture), of Feelgood Wellness Spa, recently were guests for the 2006 British Northwest Powerlifting Championships in Manchester.
Powerlifting is an offshoot of weightlifting competition. It is contested through squat, bench press and deadlift attempts.
Galea, a relative newcomer to the sport, produced a creditable showing in the 67.5kg weight class in his first competition of the kind.
He attempted a 125kg squat, 90kg bench press and 150kg deadlift, finishing with the best lift in latter class.
Just a week after winning the senior category at the National Championships, Muscat Inglott dropped into the 75kg weight class in Manchester. He attempted lifts of 190kg squat, 130kg bench press and 225kg deadlift, finishing with the best bench press result in his class.
The good showing by Galea and Muscat Inglott in a competition where world class lifters were present, and during which UK national records were broken, shows great initiative on the part of the lifters and the Feelgood Wellness Spa. It was also a boost for the upcoming sport in Malta.
