If Asian Turkey manages to scrape in as a member of the European Union, we might as well admit Syria, Iran, and all the other Asian states bordering Turkey which were part of the now defunct Soviet Union.

Their argument will surely be that, if Asian Turkey were allowed into the EU as a member, they too have the right to be members. Thus, the EU will be transformed into a European-Asian Union - a two-headed Frankenstein monster.
