It was laughter galore at the Manoel Theatre, in Valletta, last night as the MADC kicked off a marathon 23-performance run of Hercules - The Pantomime.

Children booed and hissed the baddies and their parents laughed out loud at the satire as they followed the adventures of Hercules, his outrageous "mother" Dame Bazwita and Hades, Lord of the Underworld - this year the MADC has dipped into Greek mythology for inspiration.

Spectacular costumes and lighting together with the lavish sets are sure to maintain the festive mood long after the Christmas sparklers have been spent.

Directed by Frederick Testa, Hercules - The Panto reunites panto veterans Alan Montanaro and Edward Mercieca. "The MADC panto is the only event where grandparents, parents, teenagers and young children happily go out as a family unit. The MADC panto is now part of the Maltese Christmas tradition. Missing it would be missing out," says Mr Montanaro, who also wrote this year's panto.
