For the past 20-odd years I have always affixed my car registration disk on the upper left-hand side of my windscreen to avoid any obstructions or distractions in my line of vision while driving.
On December 14 I was at work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and again the following day. On December 16 I noticed a contravention ticket under the windscreen wipers which I had not noticed the previous evening as it was dark.
It turned out there were two tickets attached: one dated the 14th and the other the 15th for the same offence.
Two different diligent wardens (Nos. 160 and 205) each decided to issue a ticket for not having the registration licence attached in a correct position even though the first ticket was still attached to the windscreen.
I find it most suspicious and a very convenient coincidence that the first ticket was issued by a Gzira council warden and the second one by a Sliema council warden, especially as the car was parked in exactly the same spot on the two dates - unless the first warden invited the second to have a good laugh at my expense.
The road licence is clearly visible. It should have been clear to the second warden that I had not even noticed the first ticket and he should not have issued another for the same offence.
If it is becoming difficult for this type of unscrupulous, renegade warden to issue as many tickets as would quench their vindictive thirst to abuse their authority it is because the Maltese motorist has become more careful, learning a lesson at a great expense.
I hope wardens 160 and 205 are proud of themselves for extorting Lm20 from a careful motorist with over 20 years' driving experience.
