For the 17th consecutive year, students of St Theresa Girls' Junior Lyceum, Mriehel, collected donations for voluntary groups. They urged people to give money for Caritas Malta, Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija and the school benevolent fund. The handsome sum of Lm4,400 was collected - Lm900 over last year.

The theme as usual was Nigri Biex Nghin... Ghinni, Habib (I'll run to help... Help me friend!). This campaign started well as far as four weeks ago and ended on December 1 with a symbolic fun run of 2.2 km, when some 950 students from Sacred Heart Convent, E.B. Vella Mosta Primary B, Maria Regina JL Blata l-Bajda, Carlo Diacono JL Zejtun, San Andrea School, and St Theresa JL Mriehel made this a memorable day!

This fun run was also attended by the beneficiaries - Mgr Victor Grech for Caritas Malta and Gordon Pace for Id-Dar tal-Providenza. Robert N. Borg, head of St Theresa JL, presided over the event. The entertaining part was highlighted by a display of the gymnastic group and talented singers from St Theresa JL, and singer Glen Vella. There was also an art exhibition by the students and their teachers.

The St Theresa teachers and administration together with the direction of Pembroke Athleta athletic club gave a well-organised fun run around the school, including the entertaining activities. The police and the teachers who were race officials did an excellent job.

The main sponsor of this event was Foster Clarks. Sponsored T-shirts were distributed to the students. Other sponsors included Kyocera Mita copiers, UV Print Qormi, Fiat UCIM Holding Co. Ltd, Urban Jungle Street Stores, Nike sportswear, Exor Group Ltd, JB Group, Kinder Sorpresa, Pace's Schoolwear, HSBC Bank, Bad Boy Cleaning Services, Vodafone Co Ltd, Maltarama travel agency, Corinthia San Gorg, Corinthia Marina Hotel, Sherries Garden Centre and FeXco - Western Union money transfer.

Christina Desira, a St Theresa student, alone collected a record Lm338 and was presented with a trophy, T-shirt and a box donated by Foster Clarks. Christina was also declared the most dedicated charity fun runner.

Of the sum collected, Caritas Malta received Lm2,000, Ir-Razzett tal-Hbiberija Lm1,500, and the Mriehel School Benevolent Fund (which helps students with special needs) Lm900.

Also present for this event were the permanent secretary and the director-general of the Education Division, Birkirkara and Balzan local councillors, directors of voluntary groups, the school council, the school management team and teachers.
