I agree with what Patricia Falzon (December 19) wrote on the decision to switch the Pembroke traffic lights to flashing amber at this notorious junction, and add that if this is dangerous to outsiders let alone what it is to us Pembroke residents.

This junction has seen many an accident prior to the installation of traffic lights, due to the bend in St Andrew's Road which makes it impossible for people getting out of Pembroke to see the speeding traffic racing down the road.

While acknowledging that this might be due to the works on the Manwel Dimech bridge, whoever decided to switch these lights to amber has no idea of the volume of traffic that daily goes in and out of Pembroke. May I remind this person that, besides the 3,000 Pembroke residents, there are 11 schools, various sports clubs and two five-star hotels making use of this junction.

To add insult to injury, one also questions the daily stationing of a policeman at the Ta' l-Ibrag junction traffic lights which are fully operational while no policeman is stationed at the Pembroke junction to direct the traffic!

Will someone be held accountable should, God forbid, a serious accident happen at the Pembroke junction?
