An exhibition entitled Pictures In Clay, featuring 24 works by artist Antoine Camilleri, is being mounted by Heritage Malta at the Contemporary Hall, National Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta until February 4 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Mr Camilleri was one of the main pioneers of post-war modernism in Malta. In the late 1960s he began to introduce textural elements including added commonplace objects to his picture surfaces. This developed into his use of fresh Maltese clay as a surface for engraving pictures that included his own portrait and elements of Maltese landscape, among various other subjects.

The exhibition is made up of works from the Museum's own national collection, from Maltese private collections and loans from the Central Bank and Maltapost plc.

The exhibition will not be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Admission is free.
