The Malta Equestrian Federation (MEF) last week elected a steering committee during an ad hoc general meeting held under the auspices of the Malta Olympic Committee.

Ronald Gaerty is the chairman.

The committee also includes the following members: Wayne Pisani, Lucy Darmanin, Mark Darmanin, Neil Psaila, Rachel Zammit Cutajar, Sue Fenech, Dunstan Vella, Carolyn Anastasi, John Busuttil and Nadine Farrugia.

As from next month, the committee will be meeting every three weeks until the next annual general meeting.

The main objectives of the new committee are to evaluate the statutes of national bodies mainly.

They also intend to draw up statutes and regulations governing districts, approve the calendars for each national body and each district and host national championships.

Furthermore, the steering committee will define what constitutes a 'national body' for inclusion in the MEF statutes, taking into consideration whether a registered stable shall be a pre-requisite for recognition and affiliation to MEF.

A proposal and interest expressed by polo organisers to host MEF events and gain MEF recognition will also be considered.

A statement said that at last week's meeting, a motion to change the current statute and adopt new text with all the necessary amendments was approved by those present.

The first general meeting under the new MEF statute must be held by not later than June 2007.
