Sales of bio diesel reached 1.7 million litres this year, a 10 per cent rise over 2005, producers EORC said yesterday.

They said that in the past two months "bio power reached another milestone in its success story" when it reached a 30 per cent penetration at retail level with the major stations stocking and selling bio diesel.

Nick Parnis England, joint managing director, and Pippo Psaila, commercial manager of EORC, gave details at an audio visual presentation at the Coastline Hotel yesterday.

During the presentation station owners were given the opportunity to get better accustomed with the product and how it enhances engine performance.

Two of Malta's top diesel system experts, Vincent Micallef and John Farrugia, who received formal training overseas in the various uses of bio diesel, gave a comprehensive account of the beneficial effect of bio-diesel and its problem-free adaptation.

Bio diesel is a clean burning fuel that is produced from waste oils and has full government endorsement and support.

Earlier this month Newsweek Magazine carried a feature about EORC's bio power project.

The project had gained international recognition when it featured in the BBC World Challenge, placing second in the world out of 476 projects from more than 70 countries.
