At present discussions are being carried out regarding tuna catching. Some say that sustainable fishng is being controlled by establishing quotas while others claim that this is only a farce because in fact a larger number are caught.

At the end of the day it all boils down to adequate control.

Nobody, however, mentions swordfish. Large quantities of immature swordfish are being caught and sold in public places. Prohibiting the sale of such fish and establishing a minimum hook size for long-lines used to catch swordfish are two alternatives to stop this slaughter. Way back in 1995, in the magazine Biedja u Sajd, it was suggested to have closed seasons for swordfish which would not be caught in autumn and winter.
