A 34-year-old man was jailed for six months for injuring a man when he stabbed him for no apparent reason.

Kevin Debono had been originally charged with seriously injuring Carmel Hartley by stabbing him with a penknife at Ta' Cassia, in Qawra, on October 25, 2002.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani heard Mr Debono plead guilty to the charge.

She also heard how Mr Hartley was having a drink by the bar when he heard Mr Debono swear at him and, soon after, stabbed him for no reason.

The stab wound, on Mr Hartley's left side, was two centimetres deep and almost penetrated his abdominal cavity. Due to the fact that it had not penetrated the cavity, the wound was classified as slight and not serious.

Police Inspector Paul Bond prosecuted.

Lawyer José Herrera appeared for Mr Debono.
