GreenPak Ltd organised a clean-up of the seabed at Wied Iz-Zurrieq as part of the Clean Up the World Campaign activities.

Wied iz-Zurrieq was chosen because it is one of the prime dive sites of the Maltese islands.

Divers from the Amphibians Diving Club and from other diving clubs joined in the event while Dive Shack of Sliema provided the air cylinders and also sent in their diving instructors to help in the event. A number of helpers were on site to help from the shore.

Among the material collected were a considerable number of rubber car tyres, tyre steel rims, traffic signs, parts of a swivel chair, oil drums, bits and pieces of metal and a mattress. The bulk of the material consisted of bottles, tins and other forms of packaging material.

GreenPak is an authorised compliance scheme which recovers and recycles packaging waste on behalf of its members in accordance with local and EU Legislation (LN277/2006).
