The Gift of Life Foundation yesterday announced that the number of MPs who have signed its petition calling for Malta's anti-abortion laws to be entrenched in the Constitution has risen to 34 from 30.

The latest MPs to sign the petition are Stefan Buontempo, Karl Chircop, Tonio Fenech and Francis Zammit Dimech.

The petition has also been signed by Josie Muscat, whom the foundation described as a "local provider of assisted conception to infertile couples".

"Dr Muscat's signature affirms that he believes that providing the right to life to the unborn child through our Constitution will in no manner adversely affect the IVF process.

"So far we have collected over 16,000 signatures from the general public and the number continues to grow daily," the foundation said.
