Anton R. Borg (December 13) questioned my letter (December 9) regarding the power the EU has over us. He believes I conveniently ignore two important facts which are: "Had the EU been as all-powerful" as I stated, "we, its 'citizens', would not have been allowed to vote down its proposed new Constitution".
Did Mr Borg not wonder why, when the only two countries given a vote on the EU Constitution, France and Holland, voted against this appalling grab for power by the EU, they have been ignored since and will, at some future date, be expected to vote again on this issue - but next time vote the way the EU wants? Or the fact that much of what was in the EU Constitution is being implemented anyway despite the opposition to it?
When British MEP Daniel Hannon asked by what right the EU had to continue implementing many of the Constitution's articles, considering it had not been voted for, he was told by what right it had not to. This crass arrogance is symptomatic of the EU and the attitudes of its sycophants.
Mr Borg also stated: "Tony Blair would not have been allowed to take the United Kingdom into its catastrophic war with Iraq. He would have been overruled by wiser heads".
As the power of the embryonic EU army increases and Great Britain becomes more tied to it, there will come a time when no British Prime Minister will be able to send our troops into battle without the permission of the EU, just as we can no longer fish our own waters without being given a quota by Brussels. Exactly the same is now happening to Maltese fishermen who are being told how much tuna they can catch. So much for respect of sovereign nations.
