Spain will restrict the entry of migrant workers from Romania and Bulgaria for two years after they become part of the European Union, but will review the ban after one year, Labour Minister Jesus Caldera said on Saturday.

Spain's foreign ministry has already said it will curb the rights of the two new members who join next month, as it did with the other Eastern European countries that joined in 2004.

But Mr Caldera left the door open to lifting the restrictions after only a year.

"We've decided the maximum will be two years," state radio quoted him as saying in Bucharest.

"We will review that next year, and if there has been no significant impact on the labour market... we could decide to abolish the restrictions," he said.
