Referee Dougie McDonald was alerted to the second offence by an assistant, but McLaren had already raced up the tunnel. The match official called McLaren to his dressing room after the match to administer a second red card. But McLaren then kicked the door of the official's room, leaving a small hole, and earned a third red.
