One of the groups and communities in Mellieha who give constant service in the parish, thanks to their dedication, patience and generosity while continuing to cultivate their talents, is that of bell-ringers.
A number of local youths are dedicating a lot of their free time to learn the art of tolling and pealing the bells so that during the parish's liturgical feasts they can volunteer to be church bell-ringers.
This particular practice has existed for many years in Mellieha. Despite all their other engagements these youths still manage to make this commitment. There are 16 bell-ringers who meet regularly.
This year yet another group of young, prospective church bell-ringers from Mellieha are undergoing training by parish sexton Christopher Bartolo, as well as by experienced members of the established team.
The new recruits should, in turn, inspire others to come forward to be of service in future by learning and practising the art of bell-ringing. The bells themselves are the pride and joy of the Mellieha community.
