Philately and poetry in Gozo

The Gozo Philatelic Society recently organised its annual exhibition in the hall of the Gozo Ministry in Victoria. It was a very interesting exhibition. It included stamp collections on a theme, old postage stamps and new issues.

This year the Gozo Philatelic Society wished to combine philately with poetry. So it asked the Ghaqda Poeti Maltin to organise, on its behalf, a poetry competition for children, on the theme of Gozitan cultural and environmental heritage.

The Ghaqda's president, Alfred Massa, and secretary, Charles Magro, examined and classified the poems submitted for the competition and drew up a report.

The prizes were distributed on November 12 in the same hall of the ministry. Besides the participants, those present included Anton Said and Antoine Vassallo, president and secretary respectively of the Gozo Philatelic Society.

Mr Magro read the examiners' report and presented prizes to the first three winners of the competition - Maria Cachia, Ian Xuereb and Marie Claire Bajada. Prizes were also given by the Gozo Philatelic Society.
