The fourth and final race from the 2006 Birkirkara 5K Road Running Series, organised by Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club in conjunction with the Birkirkara Local Council, was held a few days ago in the club's hometown.

As expected, Birkirkara SJ's James Douglas and Lisa Bezzina, of Athleta Pembroke, won their respective categories and registered the best overall times in the series. Birkirkara SJ's runners accumulated the best time in the category for clubs.

Douglas finished the race in Birkirkara in 15:50, ahead of Athleta Pembroke's Mark Herrera (16:21) and Gerald Grech, of AS Libertas, (16:24).

Bezzina, sponsored by Quest Vitamins Supplement, ran the five kilometres in 18:46. She had to be at her best to overcome the challenge from St Patrick's AC duo Giselle Camilleri (18:52) and Angela Sammut (18:54) and thus keep her 100 per cent record in the series.

In the clubs classification, Birkirkara SJ registered the best overall time by their top three athletes in the final classification. Second were Athleta Pembroke and third St Patrick's AC.

Birkirkara SJ issued a statement in which they thanked the Birkirkara Local Council, the sponsors, the police, race marshals and helpers who assisted them in the organisation of the series.
