The Malta Olympic Committee (MOC) this week announced that they have signed a new sponsorship deal with Vodafone.
The agreement will target amateur sports and elite/aspirant athletes who represent Malta in international competitions.
"Such sponsorships show Vodafone's commitment to local sports and reinforce its position as a leading company involved in actively contributing towards the welfare of the Maltese society," a statement from the MOC said.
Kirill Micallef Stafrace, MOC director of marketing, said that sport sponsorship is not easy to attain. "The few companies who offer their support rightly deserve our custom," he said. "In the long run, local sport will benefit.
"All the MOC obtains in terms of sponsorship is reinvested into sport through various schemes and preparation programmes from which both associations and athletes benefit."
Mikhail Gerchuk, Vodafone's chief commercial officer, acknowledged that athletes are sporting ambassadors and role models for our youths.
"With this agreement we are contributing towards helping the MOC prepare athletes to reach international levels and stre-ngthen the cause of the Olympic movement in Malta," Gerchuk said.
