The number of Maltese passengers departing by air and sea in the first 10 months of this year amounted to 216,866, a 12.2 per cent increase over the same period a year ago, the National Statistics Office said.

Of these, 86.4 per cent travelled by air.

In the period under review, the most frequent destination was Italy, accounting for 31.3 per cent of the total number of Maltese travelling abroad by both air and sea.

Maltese passengers in October reached a total of 19,276.

Over 16,000 outbound tourists left for European destinations, primarily Italy and the UK.
