Microsoft has donated €33,000 in aid of community development programmes aimed at eradicating the digital divide, an initiative that includes the provision of community training learning centres.
The donation was presented to IT and Investments Minister Austin Gatt during the inauguration of the fifth CTLC set up jointly with the Richmond Foundation. The other four centres are at the Eden Foundation in Zejtun, Access in Vittoriosa, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin in Floriana and the National Council of Women in Blata l-Bajda.
Another five CTLCs are planned for next year, through which the community can have easier access to ICT learning and tools.
Dr Gatt said a special effort will be made to make CTLCs more accessible to persons with disabilities.
The ministry will also be looking into the provision of "assistive technology" as the various kinds of disabilities require different forms of technology to make computer applications and the internet accessible.
