Artist Victor Agius was invited to represent Malta in an international crib exhibition entitled Faire La Creche En Europe, in Marseille, France.

Mr Agius was commissioned by the Musee de Civilisations de l'Europe et de la Mediterranee to make a crib and display it in an international exhibition.

The main aim behind this exhibition is to set up a permanent collection of cribs, each coming from a different country in Europe and the Mediterranean.

Mr Agius took the opportunity to construct a traditional Maltese crib and promote Maltese folklore. The crib is made of papier-mâché, with handmade clay figures, dressed in traditional Maltese costumes, and is complimented by sheep made of wax.

The French Minister of Culture and Communication, Renaud Donnedieu De Vabres, opened the exhibition.

All the cribs exhibited will eventually be put on permanent display open to the public.
