Mario Vassallo is the winner of the third ranking tournament organised by the Malta Pool Association at the Pandora Hall, Zejtun.

In the final Vassallo, who plays for Domus Kids, had the better of Kevin D'Agostino (San Gwann Bocci Club) by eight frames to three.

Thanks to this victory, Vassallo has moved up to second place in the national ranking list and secured his place in the Malta team that will be taking part in the World Pool Championships in June next year.

The top six players who have gained a berth in the national team are Stephen Mangion, Vassallo, Kevin Mercieca, Clint Grima, Iro Vella and Miguel Falzon.

In the Under-18 category, Joseph Casha registered his first victory by beating Malcolm Azzopardi of Espadon Bar 6-3.

Casha, who represents Cospicua Dynamos FC, climbed to second place in the U-18 ranking list and sealed his spot in the national U-18 team that will represent Malta in the World Pool Championships in June.

Shawn Agius and Azzopardi are also sure of being part of the Maltese team.

In March, the Malta Pool Association will be holding two qualifying tournaments and the finalists in the two categories will complete the national teams' selections.
