Marsa played against Krishna in the Winter League on Saturday.
Krishna won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mike Caruana and Mark G. Sacco opened the batting. Things looked good when the first ball of the innings was dispatched to the boundary with ease by Caruana.
Circumstances changed in the following over as Mark G. Sacco was bowled by probably the best ball of the day without making any runs. The ball was bowled by Kevin Krishna who eventually ended up with the best figures of the day, four wickets for 25 runs from four overs.
Robert Krishna was also bowled by Kevin Krishna in his following over. The ball had hit Roberts, pad first, and then went on to his wickets. Ronnie Sacco and Caruana put on a 38-run partnership before Sacco chased a wide ball from Jeya Krishna and had a thin edge go straight through to the keeper. Jim Towers and Caruana enjoyed a 53-run partnership before Caruana skied a ball and the bowler Roman took a great catch.
Caruana made 61 runs, including five fours. Towers ended out on nine runs and Javed Shah was stumped on the last ball of the innings for nine runs. Marsa totaled 135 runs from their allotted overs.
Marsa's opening ten overs kept the game alive. Ronnie Sacco and Mike Caruana both bowled well and more importantly took the wickets of John Grima (11 runs), Lucas (three runs) and Sam Dhandapani (18 runs).
The game was well positioned for either team to win. The Marsa bowlers needed to bowl well. Unfortunately the bowlers could not control and bowled too many wides which let the Krishna team make the required runs in the 17th over.
Jeya Krishna made 16 runs before being caught behind. Mark Sacco steadied Krishna's ship throughout the innings and remained not out with 44 runs, including four runs. The other not out batsman was Kevin Krishna who made nine runs not out.
Krishna won and earned nine points to strengthen their position at the top of the standings with 26 points. Marsa are now 15 points behind the leaders after gaining only two points from their last match.
Marsa and Krishna meet again on Saturday after the nursery/academy session.
