The number of HIV cases reported this year rose to 22 from 16 last year and 15 the year before, according to figures given in Parliament by Health Minister Louis Deguara yesterday.

He said 14 of the patients this year were men and eight were women, including one who is under 18. There were two other female patients aged under 18 in 2005. The minister said two of the HIV patients this year were drug abusers (IVDU's) as well as one each in 2004 and 2005.

The minister was replying to a question in Parliament by Joe Cassar (PN).
