FIBA referee Bernard Vassallo has just been nominated to control this week's FIBA EuroLeague match in Istanbul between hosts Fenerbahce and French champions USVO Olympique. This is the third European appointment for Vassallo this season.

Turkish basketball giants Fenerbahce are presently in joint second place in Group C, composed of six teams, together with Valencia (Spain), both with four wins and two losses. USVO are further behind in Group C, three points adrift of the second-placed teams, and Thursday's encounter is probably their last chance to keep alive their hopes of qualifying to the last 16 of the EuroLeague, with only three games to go in the group stage.

Vassallo will officiate this match together with Bulgarian official Miroslav Tomov whilst Serbian Tomislav Jovancic will be the FIBA commissioner.
