Persistence beats resistance

Every one of us wants to grow and flourish in life. Yet we find ourselves thrown off the mark from time to time. Lack of consistency makes our resistance thrive.

But here is a message of hope. Persistence beats resistance! Persistence in "what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Rom 12,2) until the end beats the resistance of "sin and death" (Rom 8, 2); so familiar to us due to our own habitual failings as human beings. Persistence and wholehearted commitment to the process of "d(ying) to sin and liv(ing) to righteousness" (1 Pt 2, 24) makes us become "the light of the world (and the) city set on a hill (that) cannot be hid" (Mt 5, 14).

This prayer about persistence in Christ's way can be very encouraging in helping us follow this value in our life-long commitment to our Christian faith:

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe in you as my God and my Saviour. Make me more faithful to your gospel and commandments. By sharing in the Eucharist, may I come to live more fully in the life you have given me. Keep your love alive within my heart and soul so that I may become worthy of you. Teach me to value and be thankful for all of your gifts. Help us to strive for eternal life.
