Car theft charge

Manwel Cachia, 25, of Zabbar was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna and charged with the theft, on Tuesday, of a Maruti car from Hamrun to the detriment of Andrew Farrugia.

The car is valued over Lm1,000.

Police Inspector Raymond Cassar, prosecuting, also charged Mr Cachia with keeping stolen objects, with breaching conditions imposed on him through a sentence by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano last June and with being a relapser.

The accused, who was assisted by lawyer Gavin Gulia, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor objected to a request for bail on the grounds that the accused was a relapser and also because of the possibility of contamination of evidence.

The accused was remanded in custody.
