The Malta Environment and Planning Authority decided 625 applications last month and received 673 new ones, so that the pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,631.

The authority processed 53 notifications of development that do not require a formal application.

It issued 95 stop and enforcement notices, 71 in Malta and 24 in Gozo, and closed 84 enforcement cases, 47 in Malta and 37 in Gozo.

Fifty-three enforcement cases were sanctioned. Another 26 cases were resolved when owners decided to remove illegal developments and comply with the enforcement notice. Five cases were withdrawn by Mepa.

Sixteen cases received at Mepa's complaints office were resolved without the need of enforcement action, since owners complied with the instructions of enforcement officers.
