Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho hopes that Shaun Wright-Phillips's first goal for the club will lift the England winger in his battle for a first-team place.
Wright-Phillips, who cost Chelsea 21 million pounds in a 2005 move from Manchester City, rounded off a 2-0 victory over Levski Sofia on Tuesday with a superb late strike as a substitute.
The goal sealed Chelsea's place at the top of Group A and, Mourinho hopes, will help a player who has failed to win a regular place in his starting line-up and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window.
"I give him a lot of chances, but normally chances coming from the bench and playing for 20 or 25 minutes," Mourinho said.
"Players usually feel under more pressure when they do that and it's not easy for them to express the qualities they have.
"He's a great professional so maybe this will give him a boost. Speculation about his future is just that. I want him to stay, even without doing things like that."
However, Mourinho also made it clear it was down to Wright-Phillips to show he deserved more chances in the starting line-up as a busy season unfolds for the champions.
Chelsea are through to the knockout stages of the Champions League, are chasing Man. United in the Premier League and will be busy with two domestic cup competitions.
"The squad we have is good in quality but short in numbers and we cannot lose players," he said.
"We have 19 outfield players for four competitions and we need every player. I need Shaun."
