This match, watched by a sizeable crowd at Marsa, saw the two leading sides in the championship clashing for top position in the standings.

Neither side gained a significant edge in the early stages although play was concentrated more in the Stompers' half of the pitch. But opportunity came in the form of a bad ball bounce, from a failed Overseas pass, and Stompers' Patrick Satariano scored the opening try, with Malcolm Attard converting.

This opening try seemed to rattle Overseas who struggled to find their feet for the rest of the first half. Stompers capitalised with B. Nicolic scoring two successive tries on the wings, one of which was converted by Attard.

Overseas fought back and a scrum on Stompers' goal line seemed sure to yield a try. Instead, it was cleared by excellent defensive play.

A yellow card for Satariano did not slow Stompers' play and they combined good, solid defensive moves with aggressive drives to reach half-time leading 19-0.

Attard opened the second half scoring for Stompers with a quick try, which he also converted, as Overseas continued to search for openings but failed to find their rhythm.

Matthew Mirabelli scored another try for Stompers to stretch their lead to 31-0.

Stompers then turned their lead into a rout as Attard scored another try, also converting it.

Player-coach Mirabelli's yellow-carded late on, did not stop Stompers from scoring a late try through Darren Mascena.

Referee: Steven Busuttil.

Sharks are the youngest team in the league with the average age of their players being just 21. Their inexperience showed last weekend as the Kavallieri forwards ran amok.

Tries started to flow from the outset for Kavallieri through C. Vassallo, J. Dienemann, L. Jonsson and Hopkins, all converted by the same Hopkins.

Kavallieri kept finding holes in the Sharks' defence with R. Vella, M. Bonavia and Vassallo adding three more tries.

J. Crawford finally opened the account for Sharks from a penalty.

But that was just a temporary reprieve as Kavallieri went on to add further tries from Dienemann (2), Bonavia (2), Vassallo (2), Vella and O. Caruana.

Referee: Philip Gibbs.
