An exhibition of stamp designs entitled Stars And Spirals was inaugurated at the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta and willrun until January 14.

The exhibition contains 24 original stamp designs together with the first-day covers and stamps of each corresponding issue. The designs, spanning three decades, were by Emvin Cremona, Harry Borg, Ganni Bonnici and Norbert Attard.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech and Competitiveness and Communications Minister Censu Galea in the presence of David Stellini, Maltapost chairman and Mario Tabone, Heritage Malta chairman.

Dr Zammit Dimech said a set of 19 stamps issued in 1965 represented 4,000 years of Malta's history. Mr Galea said heritage has always featured regularly on Malta stamp issues. The very first set that featured a heritage site was issued in 1926, and had depicted the Mnajdra Temples.

Mr Stellini dwelt on the collaboration between Maltapost and Heritage Malta in the setting up of various joint exhibitions, and mentioned that no fewer than five joint exhibitions between both entities had been set up as part of the programme of activities marking Malta's accession to the European Union in 2004.

Mr Tabone said that next year, Heritage Malta will be undertaking a number of very important projects which will include the completion of the upper floor of the Museum of Archaeology.
