President Eddie Fenech Adami yesterday congratulated Archbishop-elect Fr Paul Cremona on his appointment.

In a letter, Dr Fenech Adami said that he was sure that under Fr Cremona's pastoral leadership, the Maltese population will enrich the values that have formed their national identity.

Promising his full cooperation, the President extended his good wishes to the new Archbishop.

Another message of congratulation came from Alternattiva Demokratika.

AD secretary general Victor Galea thanked outgoing Archbishop Joseph Mercieca for his work in favour of social solidarity and his environmental commitment and wished him a much-deserved happy retirement.

AD urged Fr Cremona to continue the work of Mgr Mercieca, especially with regard to the Church's environmental commitments.

Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM) also congratulated Fr Cremona and expressed their gratitude to Archbishop Mercieca for his years of dedication and service to the people of these islands.
