Brazil overwhelmed Poland 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-17) yesterday to retain their men's world volleyball championship title in Tokyo.

Poland, unbeaten going into the final, had no answer to the power and precision of the dynamic Brazilians who took an early lead with top spiker Gilberto "Giba" Godoy again on song.

The eighth-ranked Poles fought hard to put the brakes on in the second set but after levelling at 20-20, Brazil went clear at 25-22.

The Poles were unable to recover after Brazil moved out to an 11-7 lead in the third set and when Godoy set up set point, Andre Heller finished things off.

In the match for the bronze medal, Bulgaria fought back from one set down to beat world No. 4 Serbia and Montenegro 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23).
