I and many like me voted for EU entry so we will never again have a government that will ride roughshod on us. I would like to tell Alfred Sant that most of us like it when the government "takes orders and does what Brussels says". When opponents of the EU used to say that we will lose our sovereignty, what they actually meant was that they will lose the power to again tell us what to eat, what clothes to buy, if we have computers or colour TV or not, what meetings can be held etc, etc. (so many more restrictions that it is impossible to mention them all).

That is the reason why I am disappointed that the airport departure tax was not eliminated completely. I hope that MEPs Simon Busutill and Joseph Muscat will continue pressing the EU to make the government do what it "tells it to do".

Let us also remember that it was Dr Sant who introduced this tax, plus tax on insurance and credit cards to make it even harder. This government doubled one and left the others there.

Is the Malta Labour Party still against the liberalisation of telecommunications? If it were up to them, we would be without mobile phones and have to face sky-high mobile and fixed-line tariffs which only the rich would be able to afford.

I am flabbergasted every time I hear the opposition spokesman for IT! He is one of the people who supported a government which was against computers, modernisation of the telephone network and any innovation in IT.
