The production company Where's Everybody will no longer be organising the annual Christmas event L-Istrina and this year's preparations are under way under the auspices of TVM.
We hope that this will be a new beginning for L-Istrina and it will not be just a show with prizes to entice people to make donations. Our contributions should be inspired by our Christian principle to help those in need and not through selfish greed. In the past, L-Istrina lacked that Christian spirit which in Catholic Malta should dominate all our activities during this festive time.
I hope that this time the national broadcaster will regale us with a crib and the singing of the old traditional Christmas carols that represent the Christian sentiments of the majority of the Maltese. There should be less emphasis on prizes and more on Christian charity.
For us Christians, Christmas is the birthday of our Redeemer. Why succumb to non-believers who want to secularise this great event?
