AEGEE-Valletta was present at the bi-annual AEGEE-Europe General Network Meeting, commonly known as Agora, held in Naples between November 2 and 5. The local antenna, represented by an impressive 21-member team, is currently promoting the next meeting entitled "A vision for our future" to be held in Malta between April 26 and 29 next year.
AEGEE (Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l'Europe), the European Students' Forum, is the largest pan-European network of students, boasting 17,000 members and spanning more than 270 antennae in various European university cities.
Agora is held twice a year, in different European destinations, where over 1,000 active members gather to discuss AEGEE-Europe's direction for the next six months. Led by Johann Schembri, president, AEGEE-Valletta, the local antenna took part in high-profile discussions and workshops on various interesting topics.
These included Borderless Europe, Visa issues, Higher Education, Environmental issues, Summer Universities, Board training courses and other topics. Local members also voted to elect the new Comité Directeur and other various commissions that will lead AEGEE-Europe until Agora meets again next year.
Six Agora Valletta organisers were also part of the organising team of Agora Naples. 'This helped us gain further experience in organising such a big congress in a few months," said Patricia Borg, incoming co-ordinator.
A professional stand was put up in Naples to assist with the many queries students had. Furthermore, serving Maltese food and drinks during the international night added a Maltese touch to the atmosphere in Naples.
Dressed up as Knights of St John, AEGEE-Valletta's team proudly presented its two promotional videos to the 1,000 delegates present, promoting Malta's cultural, social and historical splendour.
Addressing the delegates, David Ciliberti, main co-ordinator for Agora Valletta, emphasised the big effort that AEGEE-Valletta organisers were putting in to organise in the best way possible the stay of all delegates, logistics and social activities in Malta.
AEGEE-Valletta would also like to congratulate two of its members, Alistair DeGaetano and Alexianne Galea, for being elected AEGEE-Europe's president of the Members Commission and chairwoman of AGORA/EBM respectively.
Thanks also go to those who supported the trip - the Tourism and Education Ministries, Air Malta, Malta Tourism Authority, Vodafone, University of Malta, Cisk, Kinnie and Camilleri Wines.
