TVM remains Malta's favourite television channel, with an even bigger audience share, according to the latest independent audience research.

The Media Warehouse survey, conducted in October, shows TVM's audience share has grown from 35.4 per cent a year ago to 39.9 per cent today.

TVM has the highest audiences seven days a week in the crucial 7 p.m. to midnight timeslot and is a leader in audiences throughout the day, with all the other local stations together only managing to garner 33 per cent of audiences.

TVM audiences are also higher than those of foreign television stations during the morning and during prime time with foreign audiences only being marginally higher (by 0.8 per cent) during the afternoon.

The news bulletin also remains the most preferred news service with 48 per cent of those surveyed saying they preferred to watch the news on TVM. The second placed station in this category could only garner 26 per cent.

Tista' Tkun Int has a 74.1 per cent audience share on Thursday with an estimated viewership of 115,000.

Xarabank on TVM scores an impressive 81.7 per cent of viewers on Friday and an estimated audience of 103,000.

Dejjem Tieghek, Becky is the favourite television programme during the weekend, according to the research, achieving an audience of 94,000 viewers.

TVM's new breakfast show, Bongu, has doubled the year-on-year audience in its timeslot.

When it comes to radio, Radju Malta has held on to its audience, with a 6.2 per cent reach.

However, the "more music less talk" philosophy of Malta's Magic 91.7 is very encouraging for PBS, the survey report says. After only two weeks since Magic launched, an amazing four per cent of listeners already regard it as their favourite, with 5.9 per cent saying Magic is their second favourite station.

PBS chief executive Albert Debono said: "We are delighted with the results. A lot of hard work and creative effort has gone into improving TVM and our radio stations in the last year and this has proved worthwhile. It is the result of teamwork between all the different departments and sections of the company and the independent producers and we are very happy at how the schedule has come together".

"We would like to thank our viewers and listeners for their continuous support.

"However, we cannot rest on our laurels. We intend to listen more closely to our viewers and are committed to delivering an improved product on television and radio, with unique, creative, quality programming."
