Recently, while shopping with my wife at a supermarket, I collapsed and had to be rushed to St Luke's Hospital in an ambulance to receive urgent treatment at the Emergency Ward where I regained consciousness.

Then I was transferred to the new Admission Unit to be monitored for three days and afterwards I spent five days at Ward M5.

During my eight days in hospital I observed from close range the difficult conditions and situations, especially in overcrowded wards, in which doctors and nurses have to work to provide the best possible care and service to patients.

We must be ever grateful to them and hope and pray that Mater Dei Hospital will provide a much better environment for our dedicated and very competent medical and nursing staff to work in and for patients to continue to receive the best medical care.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank members of the staff at the supermarket for their prompt assistance for my conveyance to the Emergency Ward, the medical and nursing staff at the three wards I was in and, above all, the wonderful team at the Department of Cardiology, to enable me to resume a normal life.
