National committees want FIVB to play by rules

National Olympic Committees complained on Sunday that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) was playing by its own rules and breaking Olympic regulations on logos and the make-up of national teams.

In a declaration following a meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committees' (ANOC) executive council in Kuwait City, ANOC said it would take up the matter with the IOC to avoid similar violations at the Beijing 2008 Games.

"The ANOC president will convey to the IOC the National Olympic Committees' unease at the negative positions of some federations whose qualification systems do not comply with the Olympic Charter or go against the principle of universality in sport," the executive council said.

The ANOC has been angered by the FIVB's insistence that national volleyball federations and not the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) should pick their Olympic teams.

NOCs are responsible for assembling the teams of all disciplines that travel to any summer or winter Games. The ANOC has also opposed FIVB logos on shirts and equipment, in contravention of an IOC rule.
