An exhibition game was played last weekend to commemorate the oldest playing member of the game in Malta - Walter Glynn. He celebrated his 75th birthday by playing his last game of cricket... so he says.

On Saturday, Glynn captained one team of chosen players and his brother, Ernest, who is 73, captained another selection.

Walter won the toss and elected to bowl. Nowell Khosla was hit by a rising ball on the forearm and had to retire on one run.

Sarfraz Ali could only manage seven runs but Ronnie Sacco batted well for 34 and Robert Krishna scored 16. Mike Caruana retired on 30 runs and Javed Shah hit 25 from 18 balls faced. Mark. G. Sacco was 17 not out and there were 36 extras.

Ernest's team chalked up 174 runs from 30 overs.

In reply, Ernest's team took a wicket with the second ball of the innings, Sacco bowling Sam Dhandapani. His opening partner, John Grima, went on to make 16 runs before being caught behind. Andy Naudi was not too happy to be out having scored eight runs off four balls.

Mike Smith was batting brilliantly though until Kevin Krishna bowled him with a great delivery.

Smith had scored 33 runs from 16 balls including four 4s. Chris Naudi, like his brother, was run out for 25 runs. Jeya Krishna also scored 25 as did Sunny Krishna who was looking to win the game for his captain.

Jim Towers did well for 21 useful runs but he was bowled at a crucial time. Alan Swift chipped in with ten runs not out.

In the end, the difference between the two sides was extras. Ernest's team only gave away 11 as Walter's side managed 167 and lost by seven runs.

Next Saturday, Overseas play Krishna in the Winter League. Nursery activities will be held between 9.30 and 11.30 a.m.
