Top sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez will be giving three unique performances at the St James Cavalier Music Room, Valletta, between Friday and Sunday.
Mr Parvez is one of the most important sitar players of his generation and belongs to one of the most illustrious and influential musical dynasties.
His father introduced him to vocal music, tabla and sitar from a very young age, and showed himself to be a child prodigy. He gave his first public performance at the age of eight and displayed from the start an uncanny combination of vocal and instrumental (gayaki and tantrakari) traditions in his playing.
Indeed it is this rare skill of combining romantic intensity with technical brilliance that continues to characterise his concerts.
He has performed in every major Indian music conference and has toured extensively throughout the globe enthralling audiences wherever he goes. He has been selected to represent India worldwide and has numerous recordings to his credit.
The concerts form part of a series of cultural events organised by the High Commission of India and St James Cavalier in collaboration with the Maltese Indian Community and FMC motors.
Tickets at Lm4 and Lm2 are available from St James Cavalier on 2122 3200 or via e-mail at boxoffice@sjcav.org.
